Grants Manager - Public Transit

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The City of Phoenix Public Transit Department manages a $1.7 billion grant program, including approximately $50-100 million in formula and competitive grants per year for Phoenix transit services, and an additional $120 million in regional awards overseen as the region's designated recipient. The grant program is managed by a team of grant and grant accounting professionals led by the Public Transit Grants Manager.

The Public Transit Department is seeking an experienced federal grant professional to serve as the Public Transit Grants Manager. This position supervises and mentors a team of grant professionals responsible for applying for grants, reporting on grants in accordance with federal deadlines, reviewing for compliance and providing technical assistance on subrecipient grant applications and awards, performing complex grant accounting, and managing the region's federal 5310 grant program.

The Grants Manager must perform oversight of the team's work, as well as represent the department and City on various transit committees, and coordinate with subrecipients, Valley Metro, valley cities, the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The Grants Manager often acts independently, exercising experienced and informed judgment on the department's behalf; the position requires initiative and collaborative strategies to ensure a successful and compliant grant program.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this position has experience in federal grant programs and excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.

 Ability to:

  • Lead and grow a team of grant professionals and ensure they meet deadlines.
  • Independently problem-solve complicated grant, funding, and subrecipient issues.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate complex federal requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with internal and external stakeholders, regional partners, and the FTA.

Knowledge of:

  • Federal transit or transportation-related grant programs and requirements.
  • Grants management, both as grantor and grantee.
  • Grant accounting and funding practices.

SALARY

 

Hiring Range: $102,544.00 to $133,307.20 annually.
